Ever had to suck it up in a tough burnout situation? Sarah Gaines talks about how she walked away from a corrosive, unsupportive environment that denied her the time she needed to grieve after her father passed away and into the ‘unknown’ of travel nursing. Travel nursing flipped Sarah’s life upside down in the best way possible.
She shares big misconceptions about the uncertainties of travel nursing, how to negotiate (tips that can be applied to just about any job), and how to maximize a traveling assignment to help you advance in your career.

My Favorite Quotes From Sarah:
“Don’t ask people for directions to a place that they’ve never been.”
“Like I just know one too many nurses that were in my shoes at a staff staff job where they were just completely burnt out. They were underappreciated, undervalued, underpaid, working mandatory overtime and they just felt like they were stuck and they did not know that there was a way out. And that was me.”
In regard to travel nursing: “But also it’s helped so much with burnout simply because when I do feel myself getting frustrated with the bedside, I have the option like having that choice and not feeling stuck is an incredible feeling. Even if you’re at the worst assignment ever. You’re not stuck, you know, you have that choice to say all right, I’m just going to be dumped this in a couple weeks and I don’t ever have to come back here. And that in itself is just so freeing and amazing.”
