This is our first annual awards to recognize the incredible healthcare professionals making a difference in the healthcare community. Although we recognize there are many more that are profoundly impacting the industry, this award is our attempt to highlight some of the most noticeable professionals from several different disciplines.

The recipients of this award demonstrate what it means to be #ThrivingInHealthcare. This campaign signifies a person excelling in their work role, making a statement in their profession, and thriving in all areas of life.  #ThrivingInHealthcare doesn’t mean you are perfect – no one is. Rather, this campaign symbolizes dedication to growth and a determination to live your best life. We believe we all have a role to play to shape a better healthcare industry, and the way in which we start that is by giving ourselves the template to do so.

How are you #ThrivingInHealthcare? What lights you up about the work you do? How are you using your role to improve our industry? We want you to join in on the campaign. Share your story on social media using the hashtag and share your definition of what it means to thrive in healthcare.

What’s your top tip on being successful?

Don’t expect success overnight. You have to be willing to put in time, not just daily, but over months and years to be successful. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

During stressful times, what are some of your favorite coping strategies?

Making a plan to achieve small goals versus thinking about the bigger picture. It’s important to stay present in the moment and work on completing what you can do in a day, instead of being overwhelmed by other things.

I’m excited that it’s the 5 year anniversary of the travel therapy therapists community that I run on Facebook. I am planning to host some big events to get travelers together! My favorite part of social media is being able to connect with other therapists in real life!

What led you into healthcare?

When I realized that food had a function — it wasn’t just tasty and fun – it could DO things in your body (I was like, 12, so this was much more enlightenment than other 12 year-olds were realizing!)

What’s been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in healthcare?

“Standards” can be a useful guide, but the ‘ideal’ care for every patient/client needs to be defined by the patient AND the practitioner; not just the practitioner.

What gets you up everyday?

Umm..the train horn in Miami Shores? Also — I REALLY look forward to breakfast. And my morning exercise. It’s the only time of the day I’m ‘alone’ aka not on my phone/working/being bothered.

How do you use your platform to help others?

I am really trying to work through people’s years of trauma from diet culture. I’m trying to create a cultural shift and point out how damaged we are — but how healing is entirely possible. And how food is to be embraced and not vilified.

What’s your favorite book or podcast?

Right now — Body Kindness – a book AND a podcast!

What’s your top tip on being successful?

Keep casting lines — like you’re fishing — success is a game of chance/numbers. Eventually SOMETHING you put out there will work out.

During stressful times, what are some of your favorite coping strategies?

I’m learning to meditate and diaphragmatically breathe. I hope one day I can retreat into my mind for meditation solace when I’m stressed. For now — I’m trying to repeat a few mantras that are super comforting and logical.

The cultivation of my team dietitians’ client bases — they’re gaining more and more notoriety, especially as non-diet dietitians!

What led you into healthcare?

I’ve always been interested in preventative healthcare due to chronic illness in my family. But it was my love for food that was really the catalyst for my interest in nutrition.

What’s been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in healthcare?

Nutrition is so much more than just calories in/calories out.  It encompasses all aspects of our lives (mental, emotional, social, physical, financial, environmental, occupational) which are all interconnected. Using this knowledge to reflect on my own privilege & biases has been so valuable in working toward equitable, individualized care.

What gets you up everyday?

It sounds so silly…but the sun! I feel like I must photosynthesize or something haha, but the sun just gives me so much energy & happiness. So once it’s up, I’m up and ready to go!

How do you use your platform to help others?

I hope that my content encourages conversation & reflection about Health at Every Size, intuitive eating, and our relationship with food, fitness, and our bodies. These topics are super tough and uncomfortable to talk about, so I use doodles to help carry the messages in a way that is fun and accessible for everyone!

What’s your favorite book or podcast?

Some of my fave podcasts include RD Real Talk by Heather Caplan, Body Kindness by Rebecca Scritchfield, Food Psych by Christy Harrison, and The Mindful Dietitian by Fiona Sutherland

What’s your top tip on being successful?

For me, recognizing that perfection does not equal success has opened so many doors. Through this, I’ve realized that authenticity resonates and have spent way less time energy stressing about not being perfect, and way more on growing and learning.

During stressful times, what are some of your favorite coping strategies?

Making checklists, talking it out with a friend, planning time for fun activities, and movement are all some of my favorites. A lot of my stress comes from feeling anxious about my future, so I’ve been slowly working on practicing more mindfulness too.

What are you most excited for this year?

This is my first year being done with school, so I’m super excited for being able to less stressed, have more free time, and really just enjoy life!
