This is our first annual awards to recognize the incredible healthcare professionals making a difference in the healthcare community. Although we recognize there are many more that are profoundly impacting the industry, this award is our attempt to highlight some of the most noticeable professionals from several different disciplines.

The recipients of this award demonstrate what it means to be #ThrivingInHealthcare. This campaign signifies a person excelling in their work role, making a statement in their profession, and thriving in all areas of life.  #ThrivingInHealthcare doesn’t mean you are perfect – no one is. Rather, this campaign symbolizes dedication to growth and a determination to live your best life. We believe we all have a role to play to shape a better healthcare industry, and the way in which we start that is by giving ourselves the template to do so.

How are you #ThrivingInHealthcare? What lights you up about the work you do? How are you using your role to improve our industry? We want you to join in on the campaign. Share your story on social media using the hashtag and share your definition of what it means to thrive in healthcare.

What led you into healthcare?

My sibling required occupational therapy services as a child. From the first session I attended with her (when I was only about 10 years old), I knew I wanted to become an OT!

What’s been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in healthcare?

The most valuable lesson I continue to still learn is we all have limits. Parents, children, and us as therapists can only do so much, and so many factors play into progress and growth. I find the healthcare field can often be a challenging, ever-changing, and pressuring environment, however showing up daily with your best and knowing that is your biggest responsibility can help with navigating day to day challenges.

What gets you up everyday?

Living in Florida the weather helps, but typically it is the drive and passion I have for creating, sharing, and learning.

How do you use your platform to help others?

I utilize Instagram and Patreon to educate and share occupational therapy information and treatment ideas, create templates and documents for practice, and share lifestyle habits to encourage practitioners to live holistically and confidently in everyday life.

What’s your favorite book or podcast?

Currently my favorite podcasts are The Cash PT Lunch Hour and The Knowbodies Podcast.

What’s your top tip on being successful?

Develop and continuously work on the relationship with yourself through self-love, self-awareness, and self-care; it is the key to everything.

During stressful times, what are some of your favorite coping strategies?

I have found that mediation (specifically somatic mediation), taking a walk outside or going to the beach, speaking with friends, and focusing on small tasks helps tremendously!

What are you most excited for this year?

I am most excited about launching my Patreon page that includes my SpillingOT podcast, practitioner-based templates, and video-based education!

What led you into healthcare?

I was part of a sandwich generation and my grandfather lived with my family after my grandmother passed away. When I was in high school, he experienced a massive CVA, resulting in flaccid hemiplegia, executive function deficits and then transferred to a skilled nursing facility. I was exposed to PT, SLP and OT through his rehabilitation, but occupational therapy intrigued me as they worked on both his physical and cognitive limitations. I loved the holistic approach to a medical model and I was intrigued…

What’s been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in healthcare?

Truly listen to your patients. You will learn everything you need to know in order to serve your clients holistically, client centeredly and work as a team to achieve their goals!

What gets you up everyday?

I am very motivated and have a true passion to create resources other OT practitioners and students need to be successful in their day to day practice. I love being able to work on my business and also be home to care for my young family.

How do you use your platform to help others?

SeniorsFlourish.com and the Learning Lab Membership focus on the goal to help OT practitioners and students be the best they can be when working with older adults. I challenge others to think outside the box, get creative, use the research and work to the top of our licenses to provide excellent care.

What’s your favorite book or podcast?

Can I be bias and say the Seniors Flourish Podcast? 🙂 But a book for pure entertainment, I love Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts

What’s your top tip on being successful?

Hard work and leading with your heart. A website is a marathon, not a sprint. I have had so much joy from connecting with other OT practitioners and students from around the world and I really try and focus on listening to them and helping them on their healthcare journeys, which, in turn, directs me in my business. It is a win-win!

During stressful times, what are some of your favorite coping strategies?

I turn of my cell phone, close my laptop and get outside. Breathe the fresh air, get away from the noise and hike, ski, camp or go boating. Nature is my calm.

What are you most excited for this year?

I am working on creating a few courses and an ebook, as well as some amazing podcast guests that will bring some fun knowledge to the occupational therapy community.
